All of our systems easily install on just about every vehicle, although some
vehicles may require a few additional parts. If you wish, we will be happy
to tell you which system we feel is best for your vehicle
We are constantly asked which system to recommend, based on vehicle type. This is our advice:
-
If you are a trucker, or if you have a vehicle with no rear bumper, ask us about our “Bar” system. This is probably the best solution for you.
-
If you are trying to find a system that installs “invisibly”, with nothing visible showing inside the vehicle, choose our Model A or AF. Both of these systems include a speaker designed to be hidden.
-
If you are interested in a low-profile installation outside your vehicle, chose our Model AF. This system incorporates our new flush-mount sensors. They are extremely low-profile and are hardly noticeable at all.
If you have a pickup truck or a vehicle with a step bumper or open area behind the cab, any of our
consumer systems (Models A and A-F) will work. It all depends on the features you want. Additionally, on
these vehicles, if you would rather run all wiring into the cab before hooking them together (in order to avoid road hazards or moisture), longer sensor leads are available.
Why Backup Cameras Are NOT The BEST Backup Safety
Solution
Contrary to what you may have heard,
cameras are not the best backup safety solution, and are certainly not
a solution that should be used without the assistance of a proactive
device that can actually warn the driver. Cameras are a very effective
supplement to a proactive system that actually warns the driver. Let
us explain why.
There is a common misconception regarding backup camera systems --
that they are the best and the primary backup safety aid that should
be used on cars, trucks and motor vehicles in general. Although people
tend to be more comfortable believing what they can actually see, as
far as a backup safety aid, a camera alone is not the best solution,
and the reasons why are very simple. While cameras may provide a
visual image of what is behind a vehicle, they have two major
shortfalls.
-
First (and
most important) they do not actively warn the driver of an object or
person's presence behind a vehicle.
-
Second (but
also very important), they are not capable of providing an accurate
reading of distance. In fact, due to wide angle lenses used in most
cameras, the distance shown may actually be very deceiving or
difficult to determine.
Our backup warning systems provide
exact distance while proactively warning the driver of any obstacle
behind the vehicle, and therefore are a better option as the first
line of defense against backup accidents for any vehicle, whether they
have a blind zone or not. TailGauge has developed the best, the most
accurate and most reliable backup warning systems available for trucks
and cars (of all sizes). This is not a boast, this is fact. Providing
a distance reading accurate to within 1", reliable and resistant to
falsing, we have created a warning system better than any camera,
because our systems actively warn the driver of an impending hazard.
If you wish to use a rear view camera in addition to a proactive
system, it can be included to provide a very good supplemental source
of information for anything our proactive system detects.
Vehicle Specific Support
Please note: TailGauge does not provide vehicle specific support for a variety of reasons. The primary one is that the variety of makes and models, including intra-model year
changes that do occur, as well as the variety of trim packages that vehicle manufacturers produce make it difficult to provide this type of specific advice. However, all of our systems are designed to install easily in the average car, van, light truck, pickup, bus, etc.
In addition:
1. The variety of layouts of electrical systems, even within same vehicle models, means that any such advice could be inaccurate. We will provide general installation information to qualified technicians who are already familiar with the electrical systems of the vehicles they work on (although the
information required is usually already found in the manual that comes with each of our kits.)
2. For many of the same reasons, we are unable to provide vehicle specific installation support for issues including; where to run the cables, how to remove the door/ceiling liners/carpeting, all due to the wide range of vehicles out there and the continual changes that auto manufacturers make in their
vehicles.
We have found that the installation information in our manuals has usually been sufficient and helpful for most installations. Please be sure to read it before installing your kit. We believe that reading the manual first is part of a quality installation process. |
