POLICE TESTIMONIALS

Greenbelt MD Police Department

It is not a matter of “if” this device will save an Officer’s life, BUT WHEN! (emphasis theirs)

Hyattsville MD Police Department

The ability to be aware of a person, vehicle or object approaching from the rear of a police car is quite desirable. Would-be assailants would be hard-pressed to sneak up on a police car equipped with this device.

Officers must often quickly get in to their cars to proceed to emergency calls. The stress associated with these activities can lead to the well known “Tunnel Vision syndrome”. This device would, in all likelihood, reduce backing accidents by serving as an extra safety buffer for officers driving in high stress situations.

Officers spend the vast majority of their day driving a police car. The mere fact that they spend so much time driving increases the chance for an accident. Again the device would serve as an extra safety buffer and be a benefit to officers by reducing the chances for a backing accident.

Given the high cost of vehicle repairs, it is not unreasonable to say that the device would pay for itself if it prevented even one single vehicle - fixed object struck accident. (per unit in which it is installed)  This does not take into account the civil liability issue or costs of crashes involving another vehicle or a pedestrian.

Both officers said that, without a doubt, they would prefer a car WITH the device. The device will, in all probability, prevent some backing accidents; additionally, it could prevent the injury or death of an officer as a result of person(s) with criminal intent approaching from the rear. The cost benefit of this feature can not be adequately calculated. The installation of these units into our police fleet could benefit officer safety and appears to be cost effective.

INDIVIDUAL TESTIMONIALS

"I compliment you for your excellent backup warning system. After a year of heavy use it is still working flawlessly.

This is in contrast with another similarly priced system, installed at the same time on my second vehicle, which has completely failed. Repeated requests for trouble shooting tips have not been answered.

In retrospect I should have choose the TailGauge system for both family vehicles. I will order your system to replace the one on the Suburban.

Installation on our sedan was quick and easy. The step-by-step instructions were clear and easy to understand. No vertical or horizontal adjustments were required. There has been no "falsing" or unnecessary signaling.

In my opinion the uncomplicated electronics accounts for its' reliability. My wife and I like the large digital display and the clear sounding audio feature. The extended range of 16 feet provides more time to avoid a collision with another backing vehicle like in a shopping center. Sounding the horn could prevent a costly collision.

TailGauge provides very comprehensive info on your systems on the net. This should be a must reading before making a buying decision. A customer can be confident in a company that has been in business many years."

"Concerning your product and service, please feel free to post this paragraph to your web site. I am very pleased with your product. I love the V-SA sensors; especially the Smart Alert function. About a year and a half ago, I purchased two V-SA, 3-sensor, sets for my 2002 Ford Escape; one set for the front and one set for the back. The front sensors went on very smoothly, but I encountered a problem with the way my Escape's back-up lights worked. I contacted your service support and they immediately gave me instructions on how to install a toggle  switch which resolved the problem. Regarding the sensors' performance, they exceeded my expectations. I live  in South Korea and drivers here routinely encounter small children playing in the parking lots and around parked cars. On numerous occasions, your sensors have ensured both my wife and I were immediately aware of  the kids and did not hit them. South Korea also has very tight parking spaces. The V-SA sensors are a real plus  for us when we are trying to park because they provide us an audible alert as well as the actual distance to any obstacle."

"Just a note to let you know how well the Model A unit works and my complete satisfaction. I installed the unit on my 2002 Mercedes G 500. The install took about 2 hours and most of that time was spent hiding the wiring. I could do it a 2nd time in less than 1 hour. I used a screwdriver to remove a trim strip, some wire ties and some silicone adhesive. Any one with any mechanical ability could install this unit. I choose to glue the sensors down rather than use the double sided tape. Initially I only put 2 sensors on but found that there was a blind spot in the center. Went back and put the center unit on and everything was perfect. The unit reads EXACTLY the distance from the unit to the detected object. The warnings are adequate and only require a little testing to make sure you understand what they are communicating to you. I would recommend this unit to anyone considering aftermarket sensors. I have put this info on www.benzworld.com and as well on www.clublexus.com. I have a 07 430 SC Lexus and sensors are not available from the factory. I will probably install your AF unit on the Lexus. Thanks for a great product. "

(The bensworld.com blog entry that Mr. Phillips mentions says the following:)

"I put a comment about these on another post, but I like them so much I felt additional information might be helpful to someone. My 02 obviously does not have the sensors. I think they were added in 05. My wife drives the car most of the time so I found myself reluctant to get close when backing into a parking space especially with the spare sticking out beyond the bumpers. Our previous SUV (Q56) had sensors and back up camera. With a little internet research I found a site TailGauge Vehicle Backup Sensors - Home Page. I bought the Model A TailGauge which consists of 3 sensors, control box and speaker. Installation was relatively simple. Attach 2 wires to the back up light. I then removed the plastic trim strip across the threshold of the cargo door and drilled a hole to run the wires inside. The rear drivers side panel was removed (the speaker panel). I used double face tape to stick the control box in and attached the warning speaker to the outside of the panel. I mounted the sensors just below each tail light. I only used 2 sensors. To put the 3rd in the middle would have left it exposed and I felt it was not needed. With caulking the hole, dressing up the wiring with ties and reinstalling removed parts the whole thing took about 2 hours. I could do it now in 1/2 the time. The unit works great. It calls out 5 feet then 3 feet and becomes a solid alarm at 1 foot. Only problem, with the overhanging spare, you have to adjust your thoughts for the extra foot of overhang. Parking is much easier and I am less worried about someone walking into the blind spot behind. My wife loves it. Unit cost was $240. I haven't tried to hook up my trailer yet so I don't know if it will help or not. Hope someone finds this useful. I have learned so much from this forum. Happy New Year."

"We operate a bumper repair shop in San Diego and bought your product about 4 months ago and love it.....The day after we installed your product on one of our vans we had the driver call to say he surely would have backed into a fire hydrant if it was not for your TailGauge warning device."

"I own a big ugly Nissan Homy van which was involved in a very minor fender bender because I couldn't see behind me. I think your unit will help me survive. Out here, the latest rage is video back up systems which feed to a small LCD screen on the dashboard into which has also been installed a DVD-GPS navigation system. I believe a digital sonar system for backing up is more practical because you can tell how close you are to something instead of using disaster planning in anticipation of what you think see."

“This backup system is fantastic. It really works. I have all kinds of junk in my garage. With this system I no longer have to worry about hitting any of it as I park. It also helps judge the distance between my car and the garage wall.”

Amy Crosswell

“I bought one for my wife because she has so much trouble parallel parking. With this system, she can handle it. She doesn’t mind driving anymore.”

Jonathan Armstrong

“There are a lot of kids in my neighborhood. I have always been fearful of hitting one of them as I pull out of my driveway. This system gives me a peace of mind. It really works. I still use caution, but the system has given me a peace of mind. I have not yet had a child behind me, but this thing has detected basket balls and other toys.”

Debora Myers

“I bought one for my wife. She is not a gadget person, but this backup system has really made it not only convenient, but easy for her to park.”
