Summary
The Model V
Industrial
Driver Backup Warning System activates whenever the vehicle is put
into reverse gear, monitoring what is behind the vehicle as it backs up. A
dash-mounted LED display shows, in numerals the, the distance between
the vehicle and obstacles behind the vehicle. Simultaneously, the audio
multi-tone assistance (MTA) system starts beeping, and the beeps speed up as
the vehicle gets closer to that obstacle(s). The advantage of this dual
system is that it actively warns the driver, ensuring that he/she is
alerted to the potential hazard. (This system does not include a separate
voice speaker..
It detects objects as far away as 16 feet and people as far away as
5 feet, unprecedented in the
reverse detection industry.
All TailGauge driver
backup warning systems are accurate to within 1 1/2 inches of an object.
They
are very sophisticated, and have been designed to be reliable, accurate,
durable and smart. This system includes circuitry specifically developed to work with heavy
industrial vehicles.
The Components
The Model V Industrial
system includes:
We customize most orders to accommodate cable length requirements
and other vehicle
specific installation needs.

What
distinguishes our systems from other systems?
Our systems incorporate “Smart Sensor
Technology”, a form of “artificial intelligence.” What does this
mean to you?
-
Our systems will react differently to a
moving obstacle than to a stationary one. For example, someone walking or
running behind your vehicle would be recognized by TailGauge as a “fast
moving object”. A “fast moving object” would trigger the system to signal
a “hit” alert, while a stationary or slowly moving object at the same
distance might register without the “hit” warning. (The same “hit” alert
will sound in the event any object comes within 18” of the vehicle,
regardless of how fast either the vehicle or object is moving.)
-
The TailGauge
system can distinguish between objects at different distances from the
vehicle. For example, if there is a person 5 feet away from the vehicle
and a telephone pole 4 feet away, the system will alternate between both
objects, first displaying one distance, than the other, to make sure you
see both. If the person decides to move, the system will pay more
attention to them than to the stationary pole.
-
TailGauge systems can see wide objects up
to 15 feet away. They are programmed not to identify most objects at that
distance, in order to prevent unnecessary alerts. However, if the object
is wide and is in your vehicle’s path, the system is designed to register
it.
-
TailGauge significantly reduces false
alarms. Our systems are programmed to ignore small pieces of trash or
leaves blowing in the wind, rain, hail, snow, etc. that might cause other,
less sophisticated, warning systems to sound a false alarm.
-
TailGauge systems have been designed with
“limited peripheral vision” to provide detection of objects in a 45º field
to the left and right of the rear of the vehicle. This feature allows
TailGauge to warn you of objects next to (but behind) the vehicle without
registering objects that are not in the path of the vehicle, and thus not
relevant to the driver. If an object in peripheral view looks like a
problem, TailGauge will identify it, alert the driver, and react as though
the object might be in his/her path. In addition, TailGauge will identify
objects along the curb to help you avoid hitting them, and will provide
you an accurate reading of distance to the car behind you as you parallel
park (great for those who have difficulty judging distance while backing
up).
How It Helps the Driver
If the
processor determines that conditions require the driver to take
precautionary or corrective action, the driver will be ACTIVELY notified by
the LED display and the MTA system. The metered readout will show the exact
distance between the vehicle and the obstacle, while the beeping will speed
up as the vehicle gets closer to the object. When the vehicle comes within
8" of the object, the display will show the word "Hit", and the beeper sound
will change to one continuous tone, which will continue to sound until the
driver stops the vehicle and takes it out of reverse gear.
What the System Detects
The
system's ability to detect objects is based on both the width of the object
as it faces the vehicle and its distance from the rear of the vehicle. If the
vehicle backs up within 8" of the object, the display will show the word
"Hit", while the beeper will increase in intensity

If an
obstacle which the system has identified suddenly disappears from the
system’s “view” (Example: if a person falls to the ground behind the
vehicle) our Model V Industrial will go into “emergency stop mode”,
indicated by the display LED flashing “STP” (for STOP). This notifies
the driver to stop the vehicle immediately, shift into park and check behind
it.
A Little Bit More About the Technology
During operation, each sensor generates an ultrasonic signal.
This signal is capable of seeing through fog, rain and snow, day or night.
Each sensor reads or "sees" directly outward, to the left and the right at a
35 degree angle to each sensor and up and down at a 20 degree angle. When this signal
strikes a solid target in the path of your vehicle, it bounces back to the
antenna/receiver and is instantly sent to the signal microprocessor.
This 8-bit
microprocessor, programmed with ‘Intelligent Control Software’ incorporating
‘fuzzy logic’, processes the target signal to calculate distance and closing
speed between the host vehicle and the obstacles in its path. The processor
continuously computes this information. If the processor determines that the
conditions require the driver to take corrective action, it will alert the
driver.
What Vehicles
Can Be fitted with TailGauge?
TailGauge
makes a various models. Some are designed for private use, while others are
designed for commercial applications. While The TailGauge Model V Industrial
is (as it’s name specifies) designed for use on Industrial vehicles, it is
not intended for use in situations where the sensors may be obstructed from
a clear rear view, or where they might be damaged, either by debris or while
the vehicle is being loaded/unloaded. Contact us if you have any questions
regarding this issue.

Why is our Model V Industrial System Better
Than Other Backup Sensor Systems on the Market?
Although there are other back-up warning systems on the
market, we think you’ll find that the TailGauge Model A-F Industrial system
is a better product because:
1. Like all TailGauge Industrial systems, this product is
designed to work on industrial/commercial equipment. Most other systems are
designed only for passenger cars.
2. The Model A-F is able to detect obstacles up to 16 feet
away. No other flush-mount sensor system can detect an obstacle farther than
7 feet away. The added distance provides unparalleled protection.
3. The
Model V gives driver a highly accurate, easy to read LED display, providing
more detailed information to the driver than any audio only warning system
can. This dual warning system provides reliable, detailed information that
is hard to miss. |
