TailGauge®, Inc. is the first American based company to manufacture and distribute driver backup sensor systems. Even before TailGauge® existed, some of the people who are now our founders helped engineer the first vehicle backup sensor
systems ever developed. From that research, TailGauge came to be.
It all started as a hobby in 1997. Before TailGauge existed, some of the founders were working on an idea to develop a backup sensor system that would notify the driver of a potential hazard from obstacles behind a vehicle, a new concept at the time. By late
1997, the project had quickly taken on new intensity as feedback, interest and requests came in for additional uses for the device.
As interest increased, TailGauge was born. Research and improvements progressed, and the technology evolved from a system that had once incorporated large, bulky sensors, a digital display and a power unit that could detect one object at a time, to today's
dynamic product line that includes tiny camouflagable sensors, algorithms that allow it to detect many obstacles simultaneously while determining moving objects from stationary ones, choices between audio or display notification, easy installation and unparalleled reliability and accuracy.
Striving for more and more improvements, the company took advantage of opportunities to test innovations in real life, as consumers, law enforcement and corporate interests requested the ability to see how these new products would work on their vehicles to
solve their specific needs. The results were very favorable.
Systems are now used on motorcycles, RV's, corporate vehicles, airport equipment, trailers, picker trucks, busses, refuse vehicles, the government and more. And with improvements and new technology before us, we are now focusing on
automotive child safety, designing system features that allow for the detection and driver notification of objects (and children) behind a vehicle BEFORE the vehicle is put into reverse gear. There is no other system with a feature like this on the market today!
Today's hi-tech TailGauge® products are the result of all of these many years of innovation, experimentation, testing and improving a system that now has more uses than had ever been imagined when the company rolled the first product off the
assembly line.

We specialize in aftermarket vehicle backup sensor systems. That's what we do, and we do it the best. We feature four different models (with two different sensor styles, flush-mount and surface mount) to choose from, providing our customers a choice between
